KARACHI: As Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) have intensified their crackdown against varsity-based militant group Ansarul Shariah, Vice Chancellor University of Karachi (UoK) Dr Mohammad Ajmal Khan on Friday clarified that there is no presence of a terrorist wing at the varsity.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Khan said that the varsity has not reached a decision with regard to sharing student data with security agencies.
“We have come to know about data sharing through media; [as] no security agency has approached us,” he said.
The vice chancellor said that the university will refrain from taking a decision posing difficulties for students, adding that the decision pertaining to a character certificate has been discussed recently during a meeting.
“We are ready to cooperate with security agencies, [however] no information about terrorist activities was reported by the agencies,” Dr Khan added.

He opined the student union should be restored as it will help curbing extremism.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Karachi University would share details of students involved in suspicious activity with intelligence agencies.
The university’s name was highlighted in wake of recent attack on Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) lawmaker Khawaja Izharul Hassan after the master mind behind the attack was said to be student at the varsity.
