KARACHI: Authorities in the province of Sindh were planning stern actions against the private taxi services, Uber and Careem and provincial secretary transport Nasir Shah has already written a letter to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for blocking their smartphone applications, a claim he denies.
Nasir Shah has been of the view that the provincial government was not abandoning any taxi service. However, DIG Traffic while talking to ARY News said that Sindh government has issued already issued such orders.
Earlier, Transport Department in Punjab declared private taxi services, Uber and Careem illegal and was planning stern actions against them.
According to details, the provincial transport department declared Uber and Careem taxi services as illegal through an official notification released earlier, seizing some of the companies’ vehicles and imposing a fine of Rs 2000 per vehicle.
The transport department was of the view that private vehicles should be registered as taxis first and their route permit should also be established.
The provincial transport also sought help from Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Captain Ahmed Mubeen and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lahore Transport Company (LTC) in this matter.
Uber and Careem have been providing their services across worldwide by offering pick and drop facilities at their doorsteps. Customers just have to download their applications in order to book their rides.
