PPP faces strong opposition in first phase of LB Polls in Sindh

In Sindh ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) facing a challenge from Awami Ittehad, an alliance of 10 parties, apart of some strong independent candidates.

PPP, with rapidly dwindling support base in Punjab, also facing formidable political challenges in its stronghold Sindh including the baggage of incumbency apart of lacking in governance, corruption charges etc.

Incumbent PPP faces tough challenge from a 10-party alliance and other rivals in northern districts of Sindh including Sukkur, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Qambar-Shahdakot.

In Khairpur, the native district of Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, PPP has been pitched against a strong alliance of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and a group led by Syed Ghous Ali Shah.

People’s Party has an upper hand in Larkana district with 29 candidates of the party have returned unopposed. An alliance of JUI and Shahri Ittehad has been pitched against PPP.

According to unofficial results 408 candidates of PPP have returned uncontested in the first phase of the local councils elections. Nine-eight independent, 55 PML-F candidates, 32 candidates of JUI and 29 from Awami Ittehad have also returned unopposed.
