The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its report submitted in the anti-terrorism court has said that Mark Siegel, a friend of late prime minister Benazir Bhutto, has assured to record his testimony from Washington through video link in hearing of the case on October 1st.

Seigel, a key prosecution witness, earlier cited security reasons for his refusal to appear in person to record a statement against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in Benazir Bhutto murder case.

He had claimed that Musharraf made a threatening phone call to Benazir Bhutto before she returned to Pakistan in October 2007.

Bhutto was assassinated in a gun and bomb attack in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007, after she addressed an election rally of Pakistan People’s Party.

Musharraf was indicted in the case in August 2013 and was charged of murder, criminal conspiracy for murder and facilitation for murder.

Musharraf however denied all the charges and blamed Baitullah Mehsud, the then leader of the Tehreek-e-Taliban for the assassination.

The court also granted a plea of Naheed Khan, a close aide of Bhutto and dissident leader of PPP, for issuing her the copies of the case record.

Naheed Khan has decided to become a party in the case, after Benazir Bhutto’s driver’s testimony in the court that she had asked the slain prime minister to get out of her vehicle’s sunroof to wave the supporters.
