RAWALPINDI: A 20-year old girl died at a student hostel in Rawalpindi allegedly after being denied permission to be transported to a hospital for medical attention.
According to details, the girl identified as Urooj fell sick on the night of September 27, but the warden didn’t permit her to be taken to a hospital.
Though, one of her friends told the administration that she was sick and needed treatment, yet nothing was done. She said her friend writhed around all night, but no one listened to us. Instead, she said, they were punished over protest against the administration.
Students on Friday staged demonstration outside the hostel and boycotted the classes against her death.
The police have sealed the girl’s room and an inquiry into the matter has been launched.
A police official said the cause of her death could only be ascertained after her medical examination.
The principal of the hostel, however, denied receiving any complaint about the girl being sick, saying no complaint was received on that night, adding that the girl was a cardiac patient.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the girl’s death at the hostel and ordered probe into the incident.
He directed that the incident be probed from every aspect and a report be submitted on completion of the inquiry.
The chief minister extended condolences to the girl’s family on her death.
