Shaji was a central leader of Jamaat-e-Islami and also the principal of Usman Public School in Karachi. Reportedly, he had taken the schoolchildren on a trip to Mansehra’s Balakot Town. A student of the tenth grade had accidentally fallen into Kunhar River and Nasrullah Shaji jumped into the river as well, in an attempt to rescue the drowning child. Both Shaji and the boy drowned in the river. Following his death, several key political leaders hailed his brave decision and expressed their condolence over the sad demise of the JI leader.
After one whole year, Pakistanis took to Twitter and honoured Nasrullah Shaji for his valiant sacrifice.
