The original name or the code name of this social network site was “twttr”. Later its name was finalised as “Twitter”. The first message on Twitter was posted by Jack Dorsey on March 21, 2006 and was “just setting up my twttr” just 4 months before it was publicly launched in July 2006.

288 Million Monthly Active Users

Twitter has 288 million monthly active users and more than 500 million registered accounts, including 100 million accounts in the U.S. From last year, 44% growth has been calculated and the fastest growing demographic of users is 55 to 64 year old individuals.
